Emerson Prison Initiative Curriculum

Curriculum overview: The Emerson Prison Initiative (EPI) provides a BA in Media, Literature, and Culture program to people incarcerated in Massachusetts. EPI's mission is to democratize access to tertiary education for those who have been historically marginalized or otherwise unable to attend college. EPI aims to offer courses that are as similar as possible to our traditional Boston campus. We aspire to equip all students, whether they are on the Boston campus or in prison, with critical thinking and communication skills in order for them to engage, critique, and transform the world around them. This program serves adult men, with college credit offerings. Instruction is on-site, face-to-face, and remote.

Breaking Into Print for the Incarcerated Curriculum

Curriculum overview: Breaking into Print is designed for incarcerated students to work one-on-one with their instructors through correspondence. The average student takes about 276 hours to complete all assignments. Although most students complete this course in 18 months, IFW allows up to 2 years to complete Breaking into Print. Instruction is remote, correspondence.

Self-Paced Program at Upper Iowa University Curriculum

Curriculum/degree overview: The Self-Paced Program, offered in both paper- and web-based formats, is specifically designed to make learning as flexible as possible. A wide variety of courses is available, and you can take up to six months to complete each course. Students can complete degrees at the associate and bachelor's levels. This program serves adult men, with college credit offerings. Instruction is on-site, face-to-face, and remote.

Curriculum overview: As a champion of institutional, structural, and personal transformation, the Institute opens doors and eliminates barriers to success for people who have been involved in the criminal legal system. The Institute creates access to higher education and pathways to satisfying careers. This guide from the College System of Tennessee seeks to offer guidance and dispel myths regarding occupational licensure both for prior justice-involved students as well as stakeholders such as advisors, college personnel, and others who may act as gatekeepers to these various occupations.

While this guide is not comprehensive, it does present licensure pathways and information for 12 in-demand occupations requiring licensure in Tennessee.
