This manual will help prepare you to teach courses in Ohio’s correctional facilities as part of the Ohio Prison Education Exchange Project (OPEEP). Teaching in prison classrooms is unique and requires specialized training and many new considerations. This manual is meant to offer a guide as you plan your OPEEP courses and navigate the bureaucratic steps on campus and at the prison location where your class will convene.

Led by the inaugural cohort of the Justice Fellows Policy Program, The Education Trust, in partnership with local higher education and justice advocates, analyzed state support for currently and formerly incarcerated students in eight states—California, Illinois, Louisiana, New York, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas—and developed state-specific toolkits to help advocates and policymakers tear down the remaining barriers for justice-impacted students.
Reentry guide: Collaborative learning opportunities between Sinclair Community College and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) facilitate the holistic treatment approach to restoring and reintegrating offenders back into society successfully by providing viable educational options that enhance opportunities for increased employability, thus decreasing recidivism. This program serves adult men, with college credit offerings. Instruction is on-site, face-to-face, and remote.
This is an MOU between Denison University's Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program and Southeastern Correctional Institution. The program's purpose is to inspire and educate its students to become autonomous thinkers, discerning moral agents, and active citizens of a democratic society. This program serves adult men, with no college credit or non-credit offerings. Instruction is on-site, face-to-face.
